Take a Look at Some of Our Useful Plumbing Tips and Tricks

First I will start with one of my own which is a rule we had at our dining room table. Since family time is so precious and few these days our rule at the table was: the first one up had to do the dishes! Amazing the conversation you have at a dining room table when no one wants to get up.

Ok, now for the plumbing tips

Check every faucet in your home for leaks. Even a very slow leak can cost you money. Without even knowing, you can waste up to 15 gallons a day if you have multiple faucets, which most people do!

Fix those leaks with new washers and you can save up to 6000 gallons a year! WOW, now that’s a lot of water!

Also a worn toilet flapper can leak silently and waste water and money, check them regularly for wear and replace them or give us a call or email us info@falconplumbingvt.com and we can do it for you.

Keep an eye on the weather when seasons change, don’t forget to disconnect your outside hoses and nozzles before it gets too cold! It truly amazes us how many people forget to do that or didn’t realize the consequence or cost when the sillcock.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if you do nothing else, check / replace the batteries in your smoke detectors and your CO detectors! The Silent Killer does not let you know that it is in your home. It is truly an important line of defense for the ones you love. You should have a smoke alarm and CO detector on every level of your home if possible.

Another tip I find helpful is to know where your main water shut off valve is. As Brian always says, “better to know it and not need it, then need it and not know it”. Please feel free to ask any of our technicians to locate that for you if we are ever at your home for a service call.

When doing the dishes, do not let grease of any kind go down the drain! Scrap all of your fats and such into a tin can and throw away. Always run your garbage disposal with cold water. If your drain gets clogged, try a plunger. If you are working with a double sink, seal the drain on the other side with your hand or a small towel. Seal the mouth of the plunger over the clogged drain and pump vigorously several times. If that does not work, then give us a call or email us info@falconplumbingvt.com and we would be happy to service the problem. That’s all for now folks… more to come.
